Ginkgo and Art Nouveau in Nancy, France

Nancy was the centre of the Art Nouveau movement (New Art) in France starting at the end of the 19th century. The leaves and seeds of the Ginkgo were one of the patterns used.
I made this video in 2010 of stained-glass windows painted by Jacques Gruber with Ginkgo leaves and seeds.
Location: Brasserie l'Excelsior Flo,
1910. 3 rue Mazagran.
Historical monument.
Arch. Lucien Weissenburger/Alexandre Mienville.
Furnishing, stucco fern decoration, light: Louis Majorelle.

All eyes on moment Ginkgo's leaves fall in WV

LEWISBURG, West Virginia -- "A Ginkgo tree in Lewisburg is putting on quite a show for the people there. It is located on the campus of the New River Community and Technical College. It's the largest Ginkgo tree on public property in the state.

"It usually starts in the morning after a real hard frost or really actually takes a freeze and then it will take about 6 hours and there won't be a leaf on the tree," said Roger Griffith, NRCTC Campus Dean.

The leaves haven't fallen off just yet. Watchers say it could just be a matter of days. The leaves create a golden blanket on the ground that draws visitors to the college. It's located on Church Street in Lewisburg, just north of the main sidewalk on campus."

China: Museum saved 479-year-old Ginkgos

China: 50 kilometers from downtown Shanghai in Qingpu District you can find the Zhujiajiao Museum of Humanities and Art, with an exhibition of oil paintings and sculptures that tell the story of the town. It is part of the local government's plan to set the town apart from other charming water towns by promoting its cultural heritage.
Two 479-year-old Ginkgo biloba trees were removed for construction of the museum and were later replanted in front of the building.
"Though we lost exhibition space, we finally saved these two trees that were witness to history, so newcomers should take a stroll outside the museum as well," says Yu Xiaofu, who is in charge of the project.

Sumo: Asashoryu ginkgo-leafed topknot cut off

The retirement ceremony for Mongolian Sumo grand champion and 68th yokozuna Asashoryu was held at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo on October 3.
Mongolian Prime Minister S.Batbold, thousand of fans and friends from Mongolia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, USA and Taiwan bid farewell to the yokozuna, whose popularity still remains strong even after leaving the sport.

Sumo wrestlers know the oicho or big-ginkgo hairstyle.
About 380 people took snips from his oicho (ginkgo-leafed topknot) before his former stablemaster Takasago cut it off.
