Spring: my Ginkgo seedlings are budding!


Spring: my seedlings are budding! 

Seeds collected from a Ginkgo tree in Arles, France, September 2013. They were sown in March 2014. I kept the seedlings alive over the winter indoors.

Chinese Ginkgo tree illustration, c. 1850


Ginkgo biloba tree with small human figure.

Watercolour and ink illustration on Chinese paper (c. 1850) by a Chinese artist commissioned by the Scottish botanist and explorer Robert Fortune. Fortune was one of the first botanical explorers to penetrate the interior of China in the first half of the 19th century.
He is best known for introducing tea plants from China to India.
